CELL University Organization

Sesseljuhus has been working with the university organization CELL, Center for Ecological Living and Learning, since 2008.  The organization annually brings 20 to 30 students to Solheimar as part of their studies.  The students stay in the village up to three months and have classes in Sesseljuhus.  The courses offered vary, but they always relate to sustainability and environmental issues.  Students also receive instruction on the language, culture and history of Iceland.  The aim of the program is to teach the students about life in a sustainable community, so they take active roles in the daily operations of Solheimar.  Much of the program consists of field trips to experience the nature of Iceland, visits to Icelandic companies and institutions, as well as lectures from environmental experts.
